Five signs it’s time to hire a photographer for your business.

No matter whether you’r a big brand, or a small business or freelancer, maybe even an artist or creative, branding photography is a great way to elevate your presence! Your imagery is one of the first things your clients will see, so having headshots and branding images that reflect your brand makes a world of difference. The strongest branding photos really reflect both your brand and your personality, so potential clients or customers know what kind of experience to expect with you. If you’re not sure whether you’re ready for a photoshoot for your business, read on!

1. You’re launching a new product or service

When you’re launching something new, you want to create as much buzz around it as possible. Now many people like to believe that ‘the product speaks for itself’, but this often isn’t the case. In today’s world of social media and SEO, the main things that are going to draw people in and get your product/service noticed are great photographs, and great copy. Taking your time to plan and research these can give you the time and space to make sure you’re releasing a complete product when it’s ready, instead of throwing something unfinished out, and your clients will be able to tell. Having new photographs for your product and service can also help to show off all the best features and benefits for potential clients or customers, especially when working with an experienced professional. When I go into a brand shoot, I often know which types of images tend to do best, and what your clients/customers want to see, and I love sharing this expertise with my own clients!

2. You're updating your website or marketing materials

Having high quality images in your marketing is an absolute necessity. This is what is going to set you apart as a trustworthy professional in your industry. Especially when you’re updating any branding or messaging, working with a photographer who knows how to bring that out in your imagery is game changing. I like to offer advice about where images are best used, and how to utilise your imagery in your marketing materials to get the most out of it. If I know images are going to be overlaid with text for example, I’ll make sure to shoot landscape with plenty of negative space, and I’ll even offer advice on how to make sure your materials meet web accessibility standards!

3. You’re making frequent appearances

Whether it's a conference, podcast, or trade show, you want to have some great headshots or personal branding shots that can be added to marketing materials. Oftentimes you’ll be placed in a brochure or on a social media post to let people know you’re appearing. If you want to draw new people to you, having engaging photographs to share can ensure people don’t want to miss out on what you’re saying!

4. You're building a new brand

This one feels like a bit of a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised! Building a new brand, or rebranding a current one, is the perfect time to hire a professional photographer. When working with an experienced professional, you can be sure the images you receive will be tailored to your brand, they’ll be consistent, and support a strong brand identity. You want to make sure your branding is instantly recognisable, and strong imagery is one of the best ways to do that.

5. You need headshots or team photos

Whether you have an influx of new team members, or you just haven’t updated your teams photos in a while, it’s a good idea to keep your company headshots up to date. This is especially important for those in customer facing roles, even if you’re B2B. Engaging and friendly headshots are sure to make your team look approachable as well as professional. Want something a bit different? There’s so much room for fun with team photos, especially when you’re a creative business. I’ve seen celebrity lookalikes, fancy dress, and funny faces galore, so don’t be afraid to have some fun with it!
